Headaches can be more complicated than most people realize. Different kinds can have their own set of symptoms, happen for unique reasons, and need different treatments.

Once you know the type of headache you have, you and your doctor can find the treatment that’s most likely to help and even try to prevent them. Headache occurs almost daily in everyone's life.

Types of Headaches

There are different types of headaches and it makes us uncomfortable and sometimes it’s annoying too due to which it causes distress, can develop in different parts of the brain and also occur due to anxiety.

#1. Allergy or sinus headaches

These headaches are due to allergic reactions. With sinus headaches, you feel a deep and constant pain in your cheekbones, forehead, or on the bridge of your nose. They happen when cavities in your head, called sinuses, get inflamed.

#2. Caffeine headaches

This type of headache appears when we are addicted to caffeine. We get a headache if we don't get caffeine on time.

#3. Cluster headaches

These are severe headaches around the eye only and one side of the head. It occurs usually at midnight with extreme pain and sometimes takes weeks or months. These headaches are the most severe. You could have intense burning or piercing pain behind or around one eye. It can be throbbing or constant.

#4. Exertion headaches

Exertion headaches take place after extreme physical activities like weight lifting, running and other extreme activities. These activities can increase blood flow to the skull which can cause headaches.

#5. Migraine headaches

Migraine headaches are like vibrations or jerks in the head. This pain occurs for 4 hours to 3 days and mostly it appears one to four times a month. Many people have other symptoms like sensitive noise, smells, nausea or vomiting, loss of hunger, and disturbed stomach.

#6. Post-traumatic headaches

These headaches appear after any kind of head injury. They can be chronic too.

#7. Tension headaches

This is a headache that results when we are tensed and stressed. They cause mild to moderate pain and come and go over time. They usually have no other symptoms.

Gas and Headache

There are a host of similarities between a gastric headache and a normal one, especially in terms of causes and symptoms.

Most people mistake a gastric headache for a normal headache.

As per the accepted medical definition, a gastric headache is widely known as gastric stasis, where the stomach contains undigested food and experiences delayed gastric emptying.

Causes of Headaches

Here we shall take a brief look at some causes of headaches and they include:

  • Blood clots
  • Dehydration.
  • Skipping meals can be a cause of headache.
  • Pain in teeth or sinus problem, or bleeding in the brain which results in meningitis.
  • Drinking Alcohol in access amounts
  • Trauma can also cause headache.
  • Medication reactions
  • Overdose of drug
  • Strokes

Cure for headaches

Doctors are in best position to diagnose headache through the details of the condition. Few tests may be carried out for more serious problems like blood tests and brain scans.

The initial cure to any headache is by taking enough rest and the use of pain relief medicines like Panadol and aspirin. Other cures are:

  • Take regular meals
  • Check blood sugar levels.
  • Shower in hot water can help, but sometimes it can even act opposite in rare conditions.
  • Avoid food high in histamine

Alternative cure for headaches

Several alternative cures are there to treat headaches but before applying them we must consult the doctors, these are

  • Acupuncture
  • Hypnosis
  • Nutritional health products
  • Meditation
  • Heat pack or ice pack to you can be used on head.
  • Homeopathic treatment

Chamomile oil

This oil relaxes our body and soothes muscles. For this reason, it can be used in treating tension headaches. It can also used to cure anxiety and insomnia.

Peppermint oil

It’s helpful to treat headaches and migraines .It contains menthol, which gives relaxation to our muscles and reducing pain.

Rosemary oil

It has anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used for years to reduce stress and headache.
