Greta Thunberg Amongst Other UK Protesters To Oppose Oilfield Approval

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has taken part in a protest in London opposing the proposed development of the Rosebank oil and gas field.

Demonstrators are urging the British government to halt the development of the Rosebank site, which is believed to be the largest undeveloped oil and gas field in the UK.

Addressed the protesters outside the offices of UK Energy Security Secretary, Thunberg urged the ministers to make a decision that aligns with the course of history.

Expressing her concerns, Greta Thunberg pointed out that the mere consideration of such a project by the UK government reveals their disconnection from reality.

She emphasized that the record-breaking heatwaves and extreme weather events experienced during the summer are only the initial signs of an increasingly severe existential crisis.

Ms. Thunberg stressed that these events would persist and worsen unless immediate and substantial action is taken. She called for urgent action now, before the situation exacerbates any further.

UK Energy Security Secretary, Grant Shapps is expected to soon decide on whether to approve the development of the field, located 130km northwest of the Shetland Isles, with an estimated capacity of producing up to 500 million barrels of oil.
