UAE has announced that ten driverless taxis will be deployed to serve the public in Jumeirah by the end of 2023.
The director of Transportation Systems, Public Transport Agency at RTA Khaled Al Awadhi, RTA, who disclosed this in an interview said more driverless taxis in Jumeirah in 2024 until the gradual deployment of 4,000 taxis in Dubai by 2030.
According to UAE Moments, the autonomous taxis have the capacity to seat three passengers in the back seat, with no passenger allowed to sit in the front.
The fares are expected to be similar to the charges for limo taxis, which are 30% higher than those for regular taxis in Dubai.
RTA started a collaboration with a US-based self-driving technology company Cruise to launch driverless taxis in Dubai.
